can i buy Wrath of the Lich King instead of the Original game of world of warcraft?

i wanna get wrath of the lich king, but i dont know if i need to get the original game and then wrath of the lich king? is wrath of lich king and expansion pack or can i just get that instead? i guess what im asking is if its possible to get the wrath of lich king and not have to buy to original game.
No, you need all of them in order to play wrath if you want it: Original wow – lvl 1-60 Burning crusades – lvl 60 -70 then Wotlk- lvl 70-80 in that order. and yes wotlk ( wrath of the litch king ) is an expansion

Exactly what Meru said. You have to have all three…as Lich King is the second expansion…not the actual game!

Like the other guys said you gotta get all 3, but if you don't wanna shell out the cash all at once for all 3, don't. Start with the original, and work through that content (lvl 1-60) then get the second and work through that and so on. no need to get all 3 at once because until you reach level 58 i think you can't even go to outland and anything less than 65 and you literaly won't last 10 seconds in Northrend outside of the towns (pref 67-70).

Does that mean, if you’ve never played WoW before, and you want to start out as a blood elf, you have to:
    1. buy both WoW original and burning crusades
    2. start with a character (not blood elf because thats only available in BC) play until level 60
    3. Start BC with your level 60 character
    4. Then make a new character – the blood elf

?????? is that it? PLEASE somebody! tell THAT is not it. That would be tiring and painfull.

    Jou:

If you want to play a Blood Elf char. You to buy WoW plus BC, install both. Upgrade your account to BC. And then create your character.

  6. Confused says:

i already have the original WoW. But i want a blood elf character to play and I also want the litch king expansion. Would I have to buy all Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King?

  7. Chas says:

Yes, that’s basically it, dude. To play a blood elf or a Dranei, you must have Burning Crusade. To have BC, you must have the original, and to play Wrath of the Lich King (level 71-80), you must have all 3. Basically, everyone wants to play to level 80, so they’ve got you by the balls to buy all 3. You can install BC or WOTLK at a later time without having to restart, of course, but eventually, you’ll need all 3. Cataclysm, the next expansion, should be released around November, 2010 and will take you to level 85 and no doubt require the other 3. Cataclysm will also have two other races, so if you are just starting out and want to play the cool new races, you’re shelling out over $100 to start with all 4. It’s a major reason why I don’t have 2 accounts. The benefits of 2 accounts, especially in a PVP world (a world where the other faction can always attack you), is that you can level up 2 characters at the same time and they can more or less protect each other.

  10. Chimchi says:

i also have a question, if i baught WoW classic and burning crusade, could i automatically make a blood elf? or would i have to get one of the class WoW characters to lvl 60?

  11. sonalita says:

chimchi – no, you can install bc and make a bloodelf/drainai immediately, you don;t need a leevl 60 character 1st

  12. kevin says:

i started the trial version. since i downloaded the trial do i need to go to the store and buy the original wow game?

  13. All the answers says:

Let me sum up for anyone coming across this page…

You can buy the original WoW (or use the 10-day downloadable trial to start and pay once that is over) and play in the original territories with the original races up to level 60.

If you buy Burning Crusade expansion along with the original WoW, you can immediately play (as your first character even) from level 1 as a Dranei or Blood Elf. In order to travel to Outland, you need to be level 57 I think (although you may be able to be teleported in sooner, though there would be little reason.) The expansion also allows your character to reach up to level 70.

If you buy Wrath of the Lich King expansion along with WoW and BC, you can go to its expansion territory (Northrend). You can also create a character with the new Hero class “Death Knight” that automatically starts at level 55 (but only if you have at least a level 55 of any kind also on the account). You can also level all the way to level 80.

When Cataclysm comes out, you will need WoW, BC, and WotLK to use it, at which point you can reach level 85.

I was at this page http://www.wow-europe.com/en/downloads/client/ (download game installer) and do i have to buy all 3 or just wotlk

  15. Jason says:

While you may have to buy world of Warcraft and it’s expansions individually the first time you install it (in order to obtain serial numbers for all three games), if there is anyone here who is looking for information on re-installing (if you’ve deleted or formated your computer), you only need the Wrath of the Lich king DVD, as it contains all three versions of the game. You may be able to use the “Lich King” DVD to install for the first time as well, if you have serial numbers or an existing account.

In fact, Blizzard recommends anyone re-installing WoW to only use the Wrath of The Lich King DVD, and not the original game and The Burning Crusade. This post will be irrelevant after Cataclysm is released.

  16. Joe says:

Yes you can buy it, but it would be useless to you

  17. Russell D Heilman says:

So does anybody know if i can first download and install the WotLK Disc ISOs and then use generator to activate key or do i still need WoW and BC?

  18. jdawg says:

if i have cataclysm do i need all of the other wow games to play it or are they just to unlock the charactors, and ifyou do need all of the other games to play cataclysm then once i download them do i only need to have my battle net account signed in to play them no matter what computer im on as long as wow is installed?

  19. admin says:

You have to have all 3 parts to make it work. Also if you start at the beginning you will learn along the way
