do you have to buy world of warcraft to be able to do the free 10 day trial?

ive been making a 10 day trial account and it says i need an authentication number to type in.and from experience, i think those usually are somwhere on the box when u buy it.

No you don't have to buy the game. I just got access straight from their website.

I think they send you an authentication code in your email….

    The authentication code appears on the trial CD cover. But I heard you can download the game and it gives you one for free.

    No you need the game to have a real account but you can download the trial but you have no CD key but you don't need that for a private server.
