How can you make World of Warcraft not lag?

I recently started again as a casual hobby to do in my spare time to just kill time when not hanging with my girlfriend, playing rugby and hangin with the bro’s.

It seems that it lags a bit more now. Does opening the ports make it faster? I have 2gigs of ram so that’s not a problem and my internet is fine. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hmmm try installing a free anti malware program like malware bytes. It could be spyware or viruses that are slowing your comp down. There is also a good pc optimization guide here: http://www.hiddenstuff.com/pcoptimizationguide.htm

I used it on my comp and it worked well. Hope this helps!

it could be your video card, or other computer settings

If you are having internet problems and have a router, try opening some ports the game uses. If you get choppy laggy game play, try adjusting your game settings to a lower resolution and game graphics.

See what else is happening on your network and put a stop to it. Also, having a lot of other processes happening at the same time will drop your fps like a rock. Norton360, for example, takes up a lot of ram. And iTunes comes bundled with a bunch of other processes that do things even if you aren’t using iTunes at the time. Addons like Questhelper and Carbonite also take a chunk out of your memory banks. Especially make sure to enable the "private" modes if you can’t live without them. You’ll also find that as you progress content out of vanilla, into Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King everything gets more demanding. I would definately considering upgrading to 3GB of ram (1×2) or 4GB (2×2) if you have the cash for it.

One way to help the lag a little bit is to download something called Game booster 2.0 (you can find it on google, go figure) This will help end some of your unneeded processes and give you some ram and help the games run a bit smoother, also get a new game card if that doesnt help you.

Read the troubleshooting for lag and disconnecting on worldofwarcraft.com

Cut and paste your wow files of Interface, cache and WTF to your desktop, these files are temporary. Do it while playing or you will see the WOTLK movie again.

Look at your network setting and change the speed to 100mbs Full dulplex from default auto detect
and disable all checksum network settings.

A faster video card can make a huge difference when it comes to lag. 2g of memory is ok to have but if your video card doesn’t have at least 512mb then I would upgrade it. You can get away with a 256mb graphics card – depends on how much you wanna spend. If you upgrade your video card remember to upgrade the power supply too if it’s needed.
