you could get a private server and have some friends join you but there is no legal way to play on the normal servers with everyone else without paying

Sorry, but you have to pay to play WoW. I know, the cost is too expensive. I quit WoW a few months ago cause I didn't want to pay the fees. Maybe someone should make a petition for Blizzard to lower the fees. Lol.
